Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child have to play on a coed team?
At this time U12-U17 teams are coed. Children playing in the U4-U10 age brackett have the option of playing on a team that is gender specific. Each parent has the option of choosing a coed or non-coed team.
When are the games played?
All games are played on Saturdays. If a game is cancelled due to the weather LYSA may choose to make the missed game up by playing a double header on a future Saturday or by playing games during the week.
Where are the games played?
All games are played at the LYSA complex on Castle Heights Ave. There is a field map located under the "Location" tab.
Can I coach if I have no experience?
Yes. Coaching a team is a great way to learn the game. LYSA will offer coaching clinics and the Director of Coaching is available to assist with questions. If you coach you will be able to pick your practice times and your child plus an assistant coach's child will be placed on your team.
If I coach can I pick my team?
No. All teams are picked via a blind draw to ensure teams are evenly matched. We attempt to place experienced players with non-experienced players as players often learn from each other as well as the coach. As a coach your child and one assistant coach's child will be placed on your team.
Can I pick when my child practices?
No. Practice times are picked by the coaches after he or she receives his or her roster. Coaches are volunteers therefore the practice times are at a time that is convenient for the coach.
Can I pick where my child practices?
No. Practice locations are picked by the coach. The City of Lebanon does not allow LYSA teams to practice at the complex therefore coaches must locate an area to practice that allows for enough space and open for use.
Can my child play with their friend so I can carpool with another parent?
Players can only be placed on the same team if the parents are the coach and/or assistant coach. Players are not placed on the same team for carpool purposes.
Can both of my children play on the same team?
Siblings in the same age division will be placed on the same team. If you have children playing in two age groups the younger child may "play up" one age division in order for both children to be on the same team. A sibling will only be moved up one age division if specified by the parent on the registration form.
What does it mean to play up?
Players that wish to may play up in an age division with prior approval by the Director of Coaching and/or Club President. Example: A player that has the ability to play with the age group above. (Amanda's birthday dictates that she play U10 but she has the experience and skill to play up with the U12. Parents should request that Amanda be allowed to play up.)
Can I change my child's team if their practice time/location is inconvenient?
Unfortunately not. Teams are not divided based on practice preferences. The coaches do not choose their practice time/location until after they get their rosters. As coaches are volunteers they will choose their practice times and location based on what is convenient to them.
What is included in my registration fee?
Players will be provided with uniform shirts and socks. Each player is responsible for their own black shorts, shin guards and soccer cleats. Players will also be provided a trophy at the end of the season. The registration fee also pays for the child's registration through Tennessee State Soccer Association and insurance.
What is the difference in soccer cleats and other cleats?
A soccer cleat does not have a cleat on the toe. Players wearing cleats with a toe cleat will not be allowed to play. If you have a toe cleat they are easily removed with a knife.
How do I know if games have been cancelled?
A complete game schedule will be placed on the website once it is completed. Should a game be cancelled for any reason this will be placed on the front page of the website as soon as the league is notified. The City of Lebanon controls the use of the fields and will determine when they are available for play.
Can I request a specific coach?
No. We have over 500 children playing soccer and can not accomodate a specific request.
When will I hear from my child's coach?
Coaches will receive their rosters approximately 3 weeks prior to the first game and will contact their players to notify them of the practice schedule.
What is the jewelry policy for soccer?
We do not allow any jewelry for safety purposes. No earrings, no watches, etc. We realize that many young girls may have their ears pierced for the first time but we will not allow any earrings even if they are taped over.
Can my child wear a sweatshirt when it is cold?
Yes but please have the soccer jersey and shorts as the outmost layer. The pants must be under their socks so the refereee can see their socks. Gloves and head coverings are permitted when it is cold but no hard rimmed hats. The gloves should have no metal pieces attached to the glove for safety of others. Please do not wear a hooded sweatsuit or jacket for safety reasons.
Will games be postponed due to cold weather?
Soccer is played in all types of weather. Games will only be cancelled prior to the start of the games by the City of Lebanon due to the condition of the fields. Should games begin the league will cancel games if there is lightening in the area. Games will only be cancelled if conditions threaten the well being of the children due to extreme Heat or Cold.
Can my child play a more competitive level of soccer than with recreational soccer?
Yes. LYSA has a more competitive level of soccer which is Lebanon Soccer Club. This is for children with more advanced skill and interest in playing. The select program begins with U9 and continues through U18, both boys and girls. With select soccer there are tryouts and the child will be playing for licensed coaches. For more information regarding Lebanon Soccer Club see page tabbed "Travel Soccer" or contact Randy Maynard at 443-4833.
